I’m still debating whether to delete my account here. I’m not happy with the increasing Facebookification of Instagram. When @kevin and @mikeyk were still in charge, their taste ruled and I could overlook ownership issues. They’re gone.

I shot this on a @pictoriographica dry plate on my @intrepidcamera 8x10 using a #chromagraphica dry plate holder that I got from the Kickstarter done by Jason and @chromacamera. Returning to the theme of Hot Texas Wieners, Libby’s Lunch in Paterson is one of the first places to originate the dish. They’re located near the Great Falls in Paterson on land owned by the city. Unfortunately, they are on the verge of shutting down, as their landlord, the aforementioned city of Paterson, is not happy that they haven’t received rent in the past three years. Oops. Home of the Hot Dog

In a corner of northern New Jersey, the local delicacy is a grilled hot dog covered in onions, mustard, and chili. This is referred to for some reason as a Hot Texas Wiener. River View East in Elmwood Park is one of the classic spots that specializes in this gastronomic experience. I’ve eaten here often, as it is about a mile from where my wife grew up. First roll through my new-to-me Contax III. Eastman 5222 Double X (via @cinestillfilm) developed in #rodinal 1:50 for 11 minutes. The camera has an f/1.5 Sonnar lens, and I’m loving it. I’ve had three Kiev rangefinders, which are essentially the same camera, but this one feels more solid than the later ones I had, which were made in the 1970s. My Kiev II from 1952 fells very similar to this, though. All my Kiev’s are broken, sadly, and it’s hard to find anyone willing to fix them. The 1952 would be worth fixing. Anyway, I’m loving this 1936 Contax.

Look what showed up today on #nationalcameraday. I have three Kiev rangefinder cameras that were made using the factory that the USSR moved from Germany to Ukraine as reparations after WWII. Basically the same camera as this, which they made well into the 1980s. But I never had one of the original German-made versions. Until now.... This Contax III has a 50mm f/1.5 Sonnar lens attached. Looking forward to taking this out.

Graham suggests using a bubble level with the camera, because shots are a little wonky in this format when they’re not level. The Tittabawassee River in quieter times. My grandparents used to have a cottage on the river, upstream from where the dams broke yesterday, and a short distance downstream from where I shot this photo with my Speed Graphic in 2017 while passing through the area. I spent a lot of time up there growing up. Hoping the best for the people of Edenville, Sanford, Midland, and surrounding communities.

Verizon has a box on the edge of our property with a 110 block terminal or three inside. Someone decorated it a few years ago. Seemed like a good idea to shoot it during lockdown since I rarely leave the house any more and grocery stores and pharmacies aren’t awfully photogenic. Shot on my 1923 Graflex RB Series B on Tri-X with a Grafmatic 1168 back. Backyard.

First post of something shot with my Frozen Photon Kraken, a camera where you buy the plans and print them on your own 3D printer. I’ve been working on this for a few weeks. I still have to calibrate the focus mechanism, but I think I have infinity focus down, so that’s a relatively minor thing to take care of. You can see the camera as I built it by swiping. It shoots on 120 film at 6cm by 12cm, so you get six shots on a roll of 120. The lens is a Schneider Krueznach Angulon 90mm f/6.8 lens made for 4x5 large format cameras. Robinson Ale House on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. Shot on @new55film #new55pn400 with my #speedgraphic. Developed for three minutes instead of two; this makes a big difference when it comes to the print. Developing for two resulted in faint prints on my first shots with PN400. Three minutes seems to be the sweet spot, very similar to how PN100 comes out for me.

Boardwalk Closed

The boardwalk in Asbury Park is closed, barricaded off because of the pandemic. Shot on @new55film #new55pn400 and developed for three minutes. Upping the development time from two minutes makes a big difference for the print in my experience. At two minutes, the prints I got were faint. Sandy Hook Closed.

Taken last Sunday, April 19, 2020. Gateway National Recreation Area – Sandy Hook is closed. Shot with my #speedgraphic on @new55film #new55pn400. Developed for 3 minutes. If you swipe, you’ll see the print. That extra minute of development makes all the difference for the print. My first attempts with PN400 had very light prints.
