I shot this tree in front of our house this morning because it’s summer and it’s Friday and it’s my birthday so I took the day off and wanted to do something with it. Shot on my #speedgraphic using a @kodak #aeroektar178mm lens wide open and my new #chromagraphica #4x5 #wetplatecollodion film holder that arrived a couple of days ago. I shot three photos, and this was probably the most technically correct. I wanted to work on my collodion pouring technique since my first plates had so many problems. This was my second attempt at this shot this morning; the first had a developer island. So I bumped up the amount of developer I was pouring on the plate from 15ml to 20ml and that seems to have solved that issue. #allthroughalenspodcast #largeformat #wetplate #tintype #filmphotography

While I had everything set up, I couldn’t resist making a second tintype this weekend. This one misses the veiling from the first, but makes up for it with both developer island *and* developer burns. Baseball

This is the first #tintype I shot at home and boy, is there a lot wrong with it. Oysters, developer islands, maybe some veiling. I’m definitely out of practice on my collodion pouring technique, too.

Silver baths.

After coating your aluminum plate or piece of glass with collodion, you submerge it into a bath of iodized silver nitrate. This is what makes the plate sensitive to light. Silver nitrate stains, hence the look of these baths.
