Another family shot taken in the yard, this time as a 5x7 dry plate negative. I find it interesting that all these shots are of the women in the family. There are no group shots that show the men and women together. The only shots of men are solo shots (there’s one exception to that that I haven’t posted, and I probably won’t post because it’s racist in a way that would be familiar to the residents of today’s Virginia), or the one shot showing a husband and wife with their dog. I’m curious why there’s that omission in the photos from rural Iowa ca. 1899-1900.
